A comforting dessert with warm apples and buttery breadcrumbs, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sliced apples
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup raisins or currants (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs with melted butter until well coated.
  4. Layer half of the breadcrumb mixture at the bottom of your greased baking dish.
  5. Add a layer of the apple mixture on top of the breadcrumbs.
  6. Repeat the process by adding another layer of the remaining breadcrumbs on top of the apples.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until apples are soft and the topping is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream; store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
