A simple and delicious Italian appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with fresh tomatoes, garlic, and basil.

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette or ciabatta bread
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the baguette or ciabatta bread into 1/2 inch thick slices and arrange them on a baking sheet.
  3. Brush the tops of the bread slices with olive oil and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  5. Spoon the tomato mixture generously on top of each slice of toasted bread.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Choose ripe, in-season tomatoes for the best flavor. Experiment with different types of bread for a twist.
