Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with the sour cream.
  5. Prepare the topping by mixing together brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts.
  6. Layer half of the batter in the pan, sprinkle with half of the topping, then add the remaining batter and finish with the rest of the topping.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool before serving.

Consider using plain yogurt as a substitute for sour cream. You can experiment with different fruits or spices for variations.
