A decadent Black Forest Cake layered with rich chocolate, whipped cream, and tart morello cherries, perfect for celebrations.

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 jar (24 oz) morello cherries, drained and juice reserved
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, mixing well. Stir in boiling water until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  5. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Once cool, slice each cake in half horizontally to create four layers.
  7. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  8. Layer the first cake piece on a serving plate, adding whipped cream, cherries, and some cherry juice.
  9. Repeat the layer process until all four layers are stacked.
  10. Top with a final layer of whipped cream and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Use boiling water for a moister cake. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
