Delicious Classic Sugar Cookies with a slightly crisp edge and a soft, chewy center, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Sprinkles or icing for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  4. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the butter-sugar mixture until just combined.
  5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with decorations if desired.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Let cool on wire racks.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
