A delightful variation of the classic apple pie featuring a crumbly, buttery topping.

  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for crumb topping)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon flour, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Fit your pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the crust.
  5. In another bowl, mix together 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup softened butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  7. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Allow the pie to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Let the pie cool before slicing for better presentation. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
