A delightful Greek dessert featuring layers of crispy phyllo pastry filled with spiced nuts and drizzled with honey syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups phyllo pastry sheets
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup ground nuts (walnuts or almonds)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the ground nuts with the ground cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Grease a baking pan and layer half of the phyllo sheets, brushing each with melted butter.
  4. Spread the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
  5. Top the nut mixture with the remaining phyllo sheets, again brushing each sheet with butter.
  6. Cut the pie into square or diamond shapes before baking.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Combine honey, water, sugar, and vanilla extract in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  9. Pour the honey syrup over the hot pie and let it cool before serving.

Notes

Serve with Greek yogurt or vanilla ice cream for a delightful contrast. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
