Heavenly Angel Food Cake

A light and airy angel food cake, perfect for springtime brunches or as a delightful dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the cake flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add in the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the flour mixture into the egg whites.
  6. Pour in the vanilla and almond extracts, folding gently.
  7. Carefully pour the batter into an ungreased angel food cake pan.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Invert the cake pan onto a wire rack to cool completely before removing from the pan.
  10. Slice gently and serve plain or with fresh fruit or whipped cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze slices for up to a month.
