Homemade Vanilla Custard Fruit Tart

A delightful balance of smooth custard and fresh fruits, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made tart shell (or homemade)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh fruits (such as strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, etc.) for topping
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to your tart shell instructions if using a homemade one.
  2. Heat the milk and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until just simmering, stirring occasionally.
  3. Whisk together the egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.
  4. Pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture while whisking constantly to temper the yolks.
  5. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the freshly made custard into the tart shell and smooth the top.
  8. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
  9. Arrange fresh fruits on top of the custard once chilled.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
  11. Slice and enjoy your tart!

Notes

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Use seasonal fruits for best flavor.
