  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup orange frosting or whipped cream for topping
  • Orange slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the yellow cake mix, orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, and orange zest in a large mixing bowl. Mix until smooth.
  3. Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  7. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top with the remaining whipped cream.
  8. Decorate with orange frosting, if desired, and garnish with orange slices.
