A delightful cake combining rich chocolate layers with fresh strawberries, perfect for celebrations and gatherings.

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the bowl and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Slowly stir in boiling water to the batter.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost with chocolate frosting between the layers and on top.
  8. Top with sliced strawberries before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a hint of espresso powder to the batter or using different berries as toppings.
