  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing and flouring it.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs one at a time and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour.
  5. Fold in the chopped strawberries and chocolate chips gently.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Fresh strawberries are recommended for the best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
