Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and boiling water until well blended.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. Evenly divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. Whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until soft peaks form.
  8. Beat the softened cream cheese until fluffy, then add the semi-sweet chocolate chips gradually.
  9. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  10. Layer the cake with frosting between the cooled cake layers and frost the top and sides.
  11. If desired, melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the frosted cake, then chill in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor. Ensure your butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for easy mixing.
