A beautiful and delicious red velvet cake, perfect for romantic occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Cream cheese frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture; stir gently until blended.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost with cream cheese frosting and decorate as desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
