A healthier take on the classic fair food, these mini blooming onions are crispy, flavorful, and perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 mini onions
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) while you prepare the onions.
  2. Cut the tops off of the mini onions and carefully remove the outer layers, keeping them intact in the middle.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  4. Dip each onion in buttermilk, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. Roll them in the flour spice mix thoroughly for coverage.
  6. Dip the coated onions back into buttermilk and then roll them in breadcrumbs.
  7. Place the breaded onions in the air fryer basket, lightly spray with cooking spray, and air fry for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

Notes

These mini blooming onions can be paired with creamy dill dip or zesty garlic aioli. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
