A light-as-air dessert with a delicate sweetness, perfect for celebrations or a sweet craving.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 12 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sift the cake flour and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar together.
  3. Beat the egg whites until foamy, then add cream of tartar and salt, beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add the remaining sugar and vanilla extract, beating until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold the flour mixture into the egg whites in three additions.
  6. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan, smoothing the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Invert the cake pan and let cool completely before removing from pan.

Notes

Serve with fresh fruits or whipped cream for a delightful twist. Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
