A delightful blend of soft cake and crunchy, buttery topping with spiced apples.

  • 3 large apples (like Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 250g all-purpose flour
  • 200g granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 125g unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 100ml milk
  • 100g oats (optional for extra crunch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Toss sliced apples in a bowl with lemon juice and cinnamon.
  2. Make the Cake Batter: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk butter, eggs, and milk, then combine with dry mix.
  3. Add the Apples: Fold the apple mixture gently into the batter.
  4. Prepare the Crumble Topping: Mix flour, sugar, oats (if using), and melted butter until crumbly.
  5. Combine and Bake: Pour the batter into a greased dish, top with crumble, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Best served warm with ice cream or whipped cream. Can store covered at room temperature for 3 days.
