A heartwarming dish perfect for brunch, combining sweet flavors and a fluffy texture.

  • 1 loaf of bread (French or Challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Butter (for greasing the dish)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  7. Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, use stale bread or leave fresh bread out for a day to dry. This dish can also incorporate chocolate chips or fruits.
