A warm, cheesy baked ziti recipe that’s perfect for family gatherings and cozy nights in.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Sauté the ground beef or sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning to the skillet. Mix well and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Mix the cooked ziti, meat sauce, ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined.
  6. Spread half of the ziti mixture in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the Parmesan cheese. Layer the rest of the ziti mixture on top.
  7. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve.

Notes

Baked ziti tastes even better the next day as flavors meld together. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
