Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened unsalted butter, white sugar, and egg until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just blended.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls and arrange them on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Flatten each ball of dough with a sugar-dusted glass.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on wire racks.
  10. If desired, frost with icing for decoration.
