Authentic and flavorful Birria Tacos, a Mexican delight featuring tender beef chuck roast seasoned with a rich chili sauce, served with warm corn tortillas.

  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 23 dried chilies (e.g., guajillo, ancho)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • Corn tortillas
  • Chopped cilantro and onion for garnish
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chili Blend: Soak the dried chilies in hot water until softened, about 15 minutes. Blend together with garlic, onion, cumin, oregano, and salt.
  2. Brown the Beef: In a large pot over medium-high heat, brown the beef chuck roast on all sides.
  3. Create the Flavorful Broth: Add the chili sauce and beef broth to the pot, cover, and let it simmer on low heat for about 3-4 hours.
  4. Shred the Beef: Once the beef is cooked, shred it using two forks.
  5. Assemble and Garnish: Fill warmed corn tortillas with shredded beef and top with chopped cilantro and diced onion.

Notes

For deeper flavor, marinate the beef in the chili sauce overnight. Can use slow cooker method by cooking on low for 6-8 hours.
