A comforting and savory dish featuring fluffy biscuits and rich sausage gravy, perfect for breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for the gravy)
  • 2 cups milk (for the gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and let the preheating fill your kitchen with anticipation of delicious biscuits.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Finally, stir in the milk until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  3. Turn your dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together. Roll it out to about 1-inch thick and cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
  4. Arrange the biscuits on a baking sheet and pop them into the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they’re beautifully golden brown and fragrant.
  5. While the biscuits bake, heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the breakfast sausage until it’s browned and crispy. Sprinkle in two tablespoons of flour and stir for about a minute to cook off the raw flavor.
  6. Gradually add the milk to the sausage mixture, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. This should take about 5 minutes; season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Once the biscuits are out of the oven, serve them warm with a generous ladle of sausage gravy over the top.

Notes

For extra flavor, try using flavored breakfast sausage or adding herbs and spices to the gravy. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
