  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Powdered sugar or glaze for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the cooled brewed coffee. Stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. If using, sprinkle brown sugar and chopped nuts on top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze, then serve.
