Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons brewed espresso (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate your yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Allow it to sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Create the dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll it out: Once your dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. Spread brewed espresso over it and sprinkle generously with chopped dark chocolate.
  6. Form the rolls: Roll the dough tightly and slice it into equal pieces.
  7. Second rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover them, and let rise until puffy, about another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake to perfection: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  9. Prepare the glaze: For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, brewed espresso, and milk until smooth. Drizzle this over the warm rolls before serving.
