Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, and salt.
  2. Heat Wet Ingredients: In a small saucepan, heat the whole milk, water, and butter until warm, about 110°F.
  3. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the warmed wet ingredients to the dry mixture, blending them well.
  4. Add Egg and Flour: Stir in the egg and enough of the remaining flour to create a soft dough.
  5. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  6. Let it Rise: Place your dough in a greased bowl, cover it up, and let it rise until it doubles in size, roughly 1 hour.
  7. Roll the Dough: Once risen, roll the dough into a rectangle.
  8. Spread the Filling: Spread softened butter on the rolled-out dough, followed by brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
  9. Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly and cut it into 12 equal sections.
  10. Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again until they double in size.
  11. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  12. Bake the Rolls: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  13. Prepare the Icing: While the rolls are cooling, mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  14. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Ensure your milk isn’t too hot when activating yeast. Knead the dough until smooth for light rolls. You can substitute the icing with cream cheese frosting for a different flavor.
