Delightful homemade pretzels coated in cinnamon sugar, offering a perfect balance of crunchy and soft textures.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Coarse sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine warm water, yeast, and 1/4 cup sugar in a large bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a warm place, covering it with a cloth for 30 minutes to rise.
  6. Bring 4 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a pot.
  7. Divide the dough into small pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  8. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then place them on a baking sheet.
  9. Mix the egg with 2 tablespoons of water and brush over the pretzels.
  10. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over pretzels along with coarse salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Refresh in the oven for a few minutes to regain crunch.
