  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl: cottage cheese, flour, egg, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  3. Shape the dough into small rounds or bagel shapes.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  5. Fry the flagels until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Drain the flagels on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Serve warm with your choice of toppings.

Notes

Experiment with adding herbs, whole grains, or spices to the dough. They can also be made ahead of time and reheated.
