  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cotton candy flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 4 cups whipped cream or buttercream frosting
  • Cotton candy, for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well. Stir in the vanilla extract and cotton candy flavoring.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed batter, alternating with milk.
  5. If desired, add food coloring for fun colors.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Frost the layers with whipped cream or buttercream once cooled.
  9. Decorate with fluffy cotton candy.
  10. Slice and serve to enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze un-frosted portions for up to a month.
