  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them evenly in the greased baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring each piece is coated.
  5. Cover the dish and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature or refrigerate overnight.
  6. Bake the casserole covered for 30 minutes.
  7. Uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  8. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

Use slightly stale or day-old bread for the best texture. Can add nuts or dried fruits for variations.
