Homemade garlic butter pretzels that are soft, chewy, and bursting with flavor, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
  6. Roll the dough into ropes and shape them into pretzels on a floured surface.
  7. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush each pretzel with melted butter mixed with minced garlic and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
