Delicious and fluffy beignet squares, glazed with powdered sugar, perfect for a sweet treat any time.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for glazing

Instructions

  1. Whisk dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Combine wet ingredients in another bowl: buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Bring wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  5. Fry spoonfuls of the batter until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Remove beignets and drain on paper towels, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve with coffee or hot chocolate, and store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
