Delightful homemade cinnamon rolls that are soft, pillowy, and topped with sweet icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix the warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Mix the dough: Pour the melted butter, eggs, and the activated yeast mixture into the flour. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead until smooth.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a warm spot and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spread the butter and sprinkle the filling: Spread the softened butter over the dough and top with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll and cut: Starting at one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  8. Second rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking pan and cover again. Allow to rise for about 30 minutes.
  9. Bake the rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Icing time! Mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

For best results, ensure milk is warm but not hot when activating yeast.
