Italian Stuffed Shells

A heartwarming dish of pasta shells stuffed with a creamy cheese mixture and topped with marinara sauce.

Ingredients

  • 20 large pasta shells
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta shells according to package instructions until they are al dente.
  3. Mix the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Stuff each cooked pasta shell with the cheese mixture.
  5. Spread a layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Arrange the stuffed shells on top of the marinara sauce.
  7. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let the dish cool down slightly before serving.

Notes

For additional flavor, consider adding sautéed spinach or ground sausage to the cheese mixture. Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking.
