A simple and flavorful Mongolian Beef dish, featuring tender beef slices in a sweet and savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes. Set aside to let the flavors meld.
  2. Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, allowing it to shimmer.
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the beef in batches, cooking until browned. This should take about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove the beef and set aside.
  4. Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add green onions and garlic, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant and vibrant.
  5. Combine & Boil the Sauce: Pour the prepared soy sauce mixture into the skillet, bringing it to a boil. The sauce will thicken as it heats up.
  6. Reintroduce the Beef: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet, stirring to coat it evenly in the sauce, allowing it to absorb the delicious flavors.
  7. Serve & Enjoy: Serve hot over cooked rice, garnishing with additional green onions if desired.

Notes

Slice flank steak against the grain for tender meat. Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef.
