A classic Red Velvet Cake with rich cocoa flavor and tangy cream cheese frosting, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pans by greasing and flouring two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder to ensure even distribution and remove any lumps.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until fully combined.
  4. Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until no dry streaks remain.
  5. Divide the luscious red batter evenly between the prepared cake pans, ensuring an even layer in each.
  6. Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, generously frost the cakes with cream cheese frosting of your choice.

Notes
