Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Swirls

Delightful ham and cheese swirls made from flaky puff pastry, perfect for brunch or as a party appetizer.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4 slices ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or preferred)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
  3. Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Arrange the ham slices over the mustard, allowing them to overlap slightly.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese and black pepper on top of the ham.
  6. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the pastry into a log and pinch the seam to seal.
  7. Cut the log into 12 slices about 1 cm (1/2 inch) thick.
  8. Whisk the egg and milk together to make an egg wash, and brush it over the tops of the swirls.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the pastry is golden and puffed.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For the best results, keep the puff pastry chilled before baking to ensure it puffs properly.
