Delicious homemade soft pretzel bites with a golden-brown exterior and warm, chewy center, perfect for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Mix the yeast mixture by combining warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients by adding flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stirring until combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise: place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare for baking by preheating the oven to 425°F (220°C) and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Shape the pretzel bites by dividing the dough into small pieces and rolling each piece into a rope.
  6. Twist each rope into a pretzel shape.
  7. Make the baking soda bath by boiling 4 cups of water and adding baking soda. Dip each pretzel into the bath for about 30 seconds.
  8. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. Enjoy and serve after letting cool slightly.

Notes
