A comforting and flavorful mac and cheese with smoky sausage and a kick of BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Sauté the sausage in a large pot over medium heat with melted butter until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper; stir and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in elbow macaroni and chicken broth; bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for 8-10 minutes until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce heat, mix in whole milk and BBQ sauce; stir until combined, then add shredded cheddar cheese and keep stirring until melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños during the sautéing step. Substitute smoked sausage with turkey sausage for a lighter option.
