Delightful homemade donuts with a rich strawberry glaze, perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar in a small bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Prepare the wet ingredients by beating eggs with melted butter and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine the yeast mixture and egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  7. Shape the risen dough by rolling it out to 1/2 inch thickness and cutting out donuts.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F for frying.
  9. Fry the donuts for 1 minute per side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
  10. Prepare the glaze by whisking together pureed strawberries, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth.
  11. Glaze the cooled donuts by dipping them in the strawberry glaze and placing them on a rack to set.
