A rich and moist chocolate cake topped with a fudgy frosting, perfect for gatherings and nostalgic moments.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large baking sheet.
  2. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Combine the unsalted butter, water, and cocoa powder in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the bowl with the flour mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Mix together the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract in another bowl. Add this to the batter and mix until smooth.
  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Melt 1/2 cup of butter with 1/4 cup of cocoa powder and 1/3 cup of milk over medium heat for the frosting. Remove from heat and stir in 3 cups of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Pour the frosting generously over the warm cake.

Notes

Pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
