A decadent Italian dessert with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Create the Egg Custard: In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined; gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let the custard cool to room temperature.
  2. Whip the Heavy Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Once whipped, gently fold in the cooled custard along with the mascarpone cheese, ensuring it’s smooth and creamy.
  3. Prepare the Coffee Mixture: In a shallow dish, mix together the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur, if using.
  4. Layer the Ladyfingers: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, and arrange them in a single layer in your 9×9-inch dish.
  5. Assemble the Layers: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers. Repeat with the rest of the dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  6. Chill the Delight: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  7. Final Touch – Dusting the Cocoa: Before serving, dust the top of your Tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve.

Notes

Use high-quality coffee and mascarpone for the best flavor. If you cannot find ladyfingers, sponge cake or pound cake can be substituted.
