A nostalgic twist on the classic Dutch Apple Pie, this vegan version features a crumbly topping and sweet-tart apples, capturing the essence of autumn.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil or vegan butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 46 tablespoons cold water
  • 68 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil or vegan butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the coconut oil or vegan butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add cold water one tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together. Roll out and place it in a pie dish.
  4. Combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl and stir to coat.
  5. Make the streusel topping by mixing together oats, brown sugar, flour, and melted coconut oil or vegan butter until crumbly.
  6. Slide the pie into the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool the pie slightly before slicing.

Notes

For best results, chill your coconut oil or vegan butter before use. Experiment with different apple varieties for added flavor.
