A rich and satisfying vegan alternative to traditional bacon, made with smoked tofu strips marinated in savory flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying or baking

Instructions

  1. Drain and Press the Tofu: Start by draining and pressing the tofu gently to remove excess moisture.
  2. Slice the Tofu: Slice the tofu into thin strips or your desired shape.
  3. Mix the Marinade: Combine soy sauce, liquid smoke, maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  4. Marinate the Tofu Strips: Coat the tofu slices in the marinade and let sit for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Prepare for Cooking: Heat oil in a skillet or preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Cook the Tofu Strips: For frying, cook the marinated tofu strips for about 3-4 minutes on each side until crispy. For baking, spread the tofu on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the tofu bacon on burgers, in sandwiches, or as a snack.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet for best results.
