Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the dough: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, and knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Let it rise: Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare to bake: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Shape the pretzels: Roll the risen dough into small balls and shape them into pretzels.
  6. Boil the pretzels: In a large pot, boil water with baking soda. Briefly dip the pretzels in the boiling water before removing.
  7. Season and bake: Place pretzels on the baking sheet, brush with melted vegan butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
