Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, divided
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  3. Toss everything gently to ensure the apples are evenly coated.
  4. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a pie dish.
  5. Pour the prepared apple mixture into the pie crust, arranging the apples for an even look.
  6. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter to add richness.
  7. Roll out the second pie crust and lay it over the apple filling.
  8. Seal the edges by crimping or fluting them with your fingers.
  9. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape while it bakes.
  10. Brush the top crust with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
  11. Place the pie in your preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  12. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes.
  13. Let your pie cool for a bit before serving.
